| Crew 87 was founded by Mark Lopez, then committee chair for Troop 87 Big Bear. Mark thought a scouting program that incorporated girls was a great idea. He hand-picked advisor, Mike Westover, Assistant Advisor, Mary Pat Carothers, Assistant Advisor Brian Chajewsky, (who first thought of an eco-challenge in Big Bear) & Committee Secretary, Summer Jones. He arranged for a chartering organization and invited kids to join....It's been about 6 years and some of the faces may have changed, but Crew 87 is still going strong. Chartered by the Lion's Club in Big Bear, we meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m.. Crew 87 does many fund raisers to support our projects, such as hosting the Big Bear Venturing Challenge- most troops know as the Crew that runs the ropes courses and climbing walls every year at different events such as the Sheriff's Rodeo & Scout Jamboree. We are able to run these climbing walls through the generosity of our assistant advisor, Bruce Harter who also happens to own Peak Climbing and Adventure Company.
